This botanical watercolor presents a mature chestnut branch in early autumn — leaves turning from green to deep amber, and the opened husk revealing the polished chestnut within. The composition captures a transitional moment in the plant’s cycle, where vitality shifts toward stillness and preservation.
Painted over approximately 70 hours, the work demonstrates a meticulous layering technique, allowing light to pass through translucent watercolor glazes. Special attention is given to the contrast between textures — the smooth, reflective surface of the chestnut, the spiked husk, and the drying, perforated leaves marked by seasonal change.
The vertical structure and generous negative space echo the tradition of classical botanical illustration while maintaining a contemporary clarity and restraint.
The original artwork is framed and ready to hang.
Fine Art Prints are produced using archival giclée printing on museum-quality paper to ensure color depth, longevity, and fidelity to the original watercolor.
